I thought having two gay children was some sort of punishment, had I failed them in their upbringing? What had I done to deserve this? I turned them away as it all proved too much for me to handle. Months and years went by with little or no contact and I was deeply upset.

One day the subject came up in conversation with a new friend who was telling me about her gay son, she helped me understand that it had nothing to do with me, that I was hurting my children more than society or anyone else ever could, that I should embrace them and their sexuality and together we would find happiness.

I apologized to my children and asked for their forgiveness and we have cultivated our relationship ever since. I am old fashionecd and set in my ways but I have learned to change, you can too!
